    Next Stop: Wilshire/Crenshaw

“Metro has intimated that they’ll be voting on a preliminary line for their proposed Wilshire extension later next year, and hopes to connect their “current terminus in Koreatown to the Westside,” explains MetroRider LA. But where the stops will be are still very much in flux; “one of the stations along the line is still kept as optional: Wilshire Boulevard and Crenshaw Boulevard.”

Why not put a stop there? Area residents who call historic neighborhoods like Park Mile, Windsor Square, and Windsor Village home are opposing the proposed station, fearing a subway station would mar the original vision of their community. The HPOZ protection also limits development, which means future additions to the area capitalizing on the station’s presence will be slim to none. And already the area is a bit barren in terms of retail and other transit rider-friendly amenities.

However, as the extensive and detailed MetroRider LA piece points out, the advantages outweigh the disadvantages for this possible stop. There is a significant corridor of apartments and condos nearby that may house riders with needs that trump the wishes of the “mansion dwellers” in the more affluent segments of the area. There are also offices and schools that can be served here. And in a time of land shortage in so much of our urban space, there are some lots already in the area that could well serve as stations.

So, next stop: Wilshire and Crenshaw?”

    -Lindsay William-Ross for LAist

I’m actually in favor of this, not only because I literally live on the corner of Wilshire/Crenshaw, but I think it’ll encourage the Hancock Park/ Windsor Village residents to use public transportation more often. We desperately need an underground system that serves all communities in the Los Angeles area. I’m sick of these rich people complaining about the proposed metro stations because it might bring the “wrong people” into their neighborhoods. I wonder if they know that those “wrong people” are actually working hard to clean their house and tend to their lawn. Hopefully, we’ll see the two empty lots filled with local businesses and people selling hot dogs with bacon on the street in the near future. And a taco truck. I always love a taco truck.

Magnolia Bakery Coming to Los Angeles!

Rumors have been swirling that the famous NYC Magnolia Bakery is coming to Los Angeles, and the Los Angeles blog Blackburn and Sweetzer has now confirmed it! No date is set or location confirmed.

I am a fan of Magnolia but sometimes the frosting is just too sweet for me. I’m more of a Sprinkles fan, but Magnolia will definitely bring some good competition to the LA cupcake table.

    new challenge

    I’m a terrible blogger.

I never really post anything and when I do it’s a re-blog from someone else. So today I decided I need to blog more like the good ol’ days when I used to be on Blogger (eek!).

My challenge is to blog a photo (mine or someone else’s), a video (ditto), and some sort of text post. I’m going to try and do this everyday, well, at least Monday through Friday.

Please, let me know when I miss a day and I’ll make it up to you. Promise.

    So, here goes….

    word to your mother,

    a.

    p.s.

this counts as the text post, check!

Went to St. Mark’s 45th Anniversary celebration today, went there for 1st-8th grade. It was kind of strange to go back, but completely awesome to see old friends that I haven’t seen in 10 years, especially when you have drinks afterwards to reminisce. Class of 99’ ftw.
